  2. The reality is that most recalls are for parts not made by the actual manufacturer. They all buy in parts from other companies.
One example: Takata airbags were responsible for millions of recalls from a number of carmakers. It’s not always something the carmaker can control.

  3. I also like the way GM avoided recalls by saying or stating they were just extending the warranty on certain parts after you’ve taken your vehicle to trusted independent mechanic like Scotty and had repairs made. But since the independent mechanic wasn’t a GM garage you are left out in the cold to foot the bill out of pocket once the “extended warranty” was put into effect

  4. Back in the ’80s Ford was having yet another problem with vehicles bursting into flames and one night David Letterman remarked that at Ford quality is job one and putting out the fires is job two.

  5. Seems to me, there are cycles that companies go through. I like the quality cycles the most. Seems that is when the most is learned about the core of the company. When I was at Stanford Applied Engineering – back in the last century – there was a book called The Goal, & it was required readding for upper management. So, I bought a copy. It went through manufacturing with a comb. Making product, but only through sales. Time constraints in processing, & when steps can be skipped, & when. It is also a Love Story, so it is also fun to read. If you have steps in your business, this is the book for you to help you find ways to improve your process. It is also fun to read, & yes, there is a 2nd to it called, It’s Not Luck. If you feel your business could do better, give The Goal a read, then send me a Thank You 🙂

  6. I will be sticking with my 2011 crown vic police interceptor. This is one of fords greatest cars in my opinion overall. I really think they made a mistake by discontinuing them. Sure the panther platform was old and outdated but as the saying goes – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
I have put over 30,000 miles on my vic since I got it and I have had ZERO issues. It is super reliable. Very comfortable, roomy, and safe. Although I am sure it took a beating when it was a patrol car, the engine and transmission are still strong as ever. Sure for a v8 its not the fastest by far, but it sure is damn near bulletproof.

  7. As a ford guy it kinda makes me happy that they are at least admitting things and trying to fix them…but at the same time yes it makes me question reliability, but then again I question many manufacturers on that today, makes me want to stick with older proving cars
